Around the venue, discover Harbiye, Taksim and the cafés and shops of Nişantaşı. For the historic city, head to Sultanahmet and the bazaars; for a different perspective, explore the Bosphorus waterfront.
Entry requirements
Check the rules for your nationality and travel document, including passport validity and visa eligibility. Requirements differ; confirm them before booking.
Arriving in Istanbul
IST is on the European side; SAW is on the Asian side. Compare airport shuttles, rail connections and licensed taxis or pre-booked transfers to Taksim–Harbiye. Allow extra time for traffic.
Getting around
Use the rail map to plan metro, tram and funicular connections. Check Istanbulkart options and current fares. Ask your hotel for licensed taxi assistance; walking routes may include slopes and steps.
Currency & payments
The local currency is the Turkish lira (TRY). Check EUR/TRY and USD/TRY reference rates below. Card, bank, ATM and exchange-office rates and fees may differ; keep some local cash.
Health & travel insurance
Arrange travel insurance covering medical treatment and repatriation. EHIC/GHIC cards are not valid in Türkiye. Check the insurance requirements of your specific visa application; these are separate from this travel recommendation.
November essentials
Pack layers, a rainproof jacket and comfortable walking shoes for cool, potentially wet autumn days. Climate averages are not a forecast: check the weather shortly before travel.
Useful essentials
Istanbul uses Türkiye time (UTC+3). Bring a suitable adaptor for European round-pin sockets (types C/F; 230 V, 50 Hz). Check your device voltage and your provider’s Türkiye roaming or data options before departure.
Local customs & accessibility
For mosque visits, dress modestly, follow footwear and head-covering guidance, and respect prayer times. Ask the hotel and agency to confirm step-free access, adapted rooms, walking demands and transport arrangements.
